Heather Collecting

On the Thursday before the parish fair starts, some (generally new or young) "Kerwasburschen" start for collecting 5 to 6 sacks of heather.

With hedge shears and reaping hooks they go into the forest, and the search for the heather, which is getting ver rare nowadays, is beginning.

After the work is done, the "Kerwasburschen" take their "prey" and meet at one of the innkeepers in order to decorate the celebration wreast, which is carried at the head of the parish fair procession, and the big wreast, which decorates the parish fair tree, with the collected heather.
